Who We Are

Firewire was founded by Morgan Crockett, a Salt Lake City-based designer and art director who spent over a decade helping clients with book layout, file preparation, and production. Working that close to the process made one thing obvious: the printing side of the industry isn't built for independent publishers or first-time authors.

The options aren't great: Print-on-demand (POD) services offer low quality and high per-book costs. Domestic printers struggle to produce full-color hardcover books affordably. And going direct to an overseas supplier means taking on real financial risk—navigating vetting, specs, freight, and quality control with no experience and no backup plan if something goes wrong.

For a self-publishing author trying to print a premium book and still turn a profit, none of those work.

Firewire was built to close that gap. We give self-publishing authors, content creators, independent publishers, and small presses a safe, predictable path to the same overseas manufacturing that major publishers rely on. Since an experienced team manages every step, you don't have to take on the risk yourself.

What We Do

When you work with Firewire, you get a team that handles everything a first-time author shouldn't have to figure out on their own: supplier confidence, file preflight, printed proofs coordination, production oversight, ocean freight, customs clearance, and final delivery.

You stay informed at every stage. You don't need to know what a bleed is, whether your photos are exported in the correct color space, or how to process your shipment through customs. That's our job.

What you keep: 100% of the creative control, copyright, and profits. Our goals is always to have your book turn out the way you always imagined it would.

Working with Firewire on my latest cookbook was a seamless experience from start to finish. Their attention to detail and responsiveness brought my vision to life beautifully.

Why overseas

The books you've held that felt truly premium—heavy paper stock, rich colors, cloth foil-stamped cases, debossed covers—are almost always printed overseas. Not because the publishers behind them were cutting corners, but because overseas manufacturing offers tons of capabilities and paper options that domestic printers can't match for the price point.

Rizzoli, Phaidon, Assouline. The publishers whose books set the standard for what a premium book feels like all use the same overseas supply chain that Firewire gives you access to.

The barrier for most independent authors isn't quality, it's complexity. Vetting suppliers, managing file specs across time zones, coordinating freight and customs, and knowing what to do when something goes wrong. That complexity is exactly what Firewire absorbs so you don't have to.

Who we work with

We work best with authors and boutique publishers who are ready to print seriously.

Firewire is the perfect fit for offset printing projects, usually with 1,000 copies or more. Most of our clients are producing cookbooks, coffee table books, art books, children's books, or board books. These types of books are where quality is non-negotiable and other printing options are either too expensive or too limiting in finishes or materials.

If you're still testing the market at 100–200 copies, we're probably not the right fit yet. But, if you're ready to commit to a 500qty+ print run, we're the diamond-in-the-rough option you've been looking for.

We promise to care as much about
the quality of your book as you do.
